Prosecution initiates proceedings in the ‘Abu Omar’ case
In addition to Moustapha Hessian and Sheikh Khaldoun Oraymet, who had already been arrested in the case, the public prosecutor at the Beirut Court of Appeal, Raja Hamoush, ordered on Monday the arrest of Oraymet’s son as well as Sheikh Khaled Sabsabi.

The public prosecutor at the Beirut Court of Appeal, Raja Hamoush, initiated legal proceedings on Monday in the “Abu Omar” case. This nickname was used by Moustapha Hessian, a mechanic from Akkar in northern Lebanon, who posed as a member of the Saudi royal court to Lebanese political figures and businessmen, claiming he could secure support from the kingdom for their initiatives and activities in exchange for payments.Judge Hamoush, to whom the case file was referred on Wednesday by top prosecutor Jamal Hajjar, following the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, has accordingly implicated “Abu Omar” and a Sunni cleric, Khaldoun Oraymet, both of whom Hajjar arrested in December.
