BEIRUT — As the draft law on loss distribution and deposit restitution (gap law), presented Friday night by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, comes under Cabinet scrutiny, various associations of depositors harmed by banking restrictions — formed at the onset the crisis — have had much to say about the proposed text and its limitations.Some of them are completely hostile to it and call for its withdrawal. This is particularly the case for the association The Cry of the Depositors (Sarkhet al-Moudiine), the Union of Lebanese Expatriate Depositors, and the Union of Depositors’ Solidarity. These three organizations are advocating for a solution that prioritizes full repayment of deposits — an argument also used by the banking lobby to justify its opposition to such a plan for the past six years.Allied with the association Our Funds Belong to Us...
