After a 2-year hiatus, this year's festival sets to breathe new life into Beirut with 34 artists, a showcase of original projects and a special focus on Palestinian music.

The Beirut and Beyond International Music Festival (BBIMF) returns on Thursday, Dec. 4, after a two-year forced absence, in which war, famine and other forms of oppression — from Gaza to Lebanon — put creative endeavors on the backburner.But this year the festival is back, with 34 artists and 12 musical groups from Palestine, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Chile and Iran, as well as workshops bringing together 21 production professionals. The event brings a plurality of musical languages and a pool of new talent, most of whom root their work in a political stance, a narrative grounded in land and rights, and a vital need to translate emotions, wounds and human experiences.
