Hezbollah MP Ibrahim Moussawi stated on Tuesday that "it is the weapon of the resistance that liberated and protected Lebanon" and that his party will remain "firmly committed" to it.

"The Lebanese have the right to protect their country, and the state has the duty to defend the sovereignty, life, and dignity of the citizens, and not to bow to the enemy's dictates. It is the weapon of the resistance that liberated Lebanon and protects it, and we will remain committed to it," he said.

Speaking at a religious council for Ashoura organized in Baalbeck, the MP denounced attempts to "brainwash" and "present normalization with Israel as a path to peace," claiming that the agreements signed with Israel "have brought neither prosperity nor security, but more humiliation."

Moussawi's statements came as the Lebanese response to the American roadmap was to be finalized on Tuesday evening. The American demands were transmitted to Lebanon on June 19 by Thomas Barrack, the U.S. special envoy for Syria and ambassador to Turkey. This document, focused on the disarmament of Hezbollah and other armed groups, also calls for warming relations with neighboring Syria and financial reforms. It foresaw a gradual disarmament of Hezbollah in exchange for a withdrawal of Israeli troops from the areas they still occupy in southern Lebanon.
