A 25-year-old man, Hadi Majid Hafideh, originally from the town of Bhannin, near Minieh in northern Lebanon, drowned on Monday while swimming off a beach in his hometown, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent.
The tragedy occurred during strong gusts in the region, which caused large waves and strong sea currents.
Drownings are common every summer in Lebanon. In 2024, at least 22 people drowned along the Lebanese coast, according to L'Orient Today's count.
