Lebanon's Mufti Abdel Latif Derian met at Dar al-Fatwa with Saudi ambassador Walid Boukhari, who came to extend his greetings following Eid al-Adha and to congratulate him on completing the pilgrimage to Mecca at the invitation of the royal protocol.
According to a statement from Dar al-Fatwa's press office, discussions between the two officials focused notably on "the importance of Lebanon staying out of the ongoing conflict between Iran and the Zionist enemy," while calling for "increased Arab and international diplomatic efforts to contain the military escalation and prioritize dialogue."
They also warned of the political, economic and environmental consequences of this war on the region, reaffirming the importance for Lebanon to maintain its security and stability, while Israeli attacks on certain areas of the country continue and violations of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006, persist.
Derian also emphasized the need for Lebanon to continue administrative and financial reforms, as well as the rehabilitation of infrastructure to revive the country's recovery process, relying on the support of brotherly Arab countries and international partners. He finally urged the authorities to strengthen their coordination with the Arab world and to stay out of bloody conflicts and reconfigurations of alliances in the region.
