BEIRUT — The Israeli army killed one person late Monday afternoon in an airstrike on a car traveling between Wadi Zefta and Nmeirieh in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, our regional correspondent reported.

The victim’s identity was not immediately known.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli army opened fire, without causing any casualties, on a vehicle, and conducted excavation work from two positions it continues to illegally occupy in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon.

From the Hamamis hill, south of Khiam, gunfire targeted a vehicle traveling between the villages of Wazzani and Ain Arab, without causing injuries. In addition, an Israeli bulldozer was seen performing excavation work near a recently established center at the intersection of the Israeli site of al-Abad, between Markaba and Houla, reported L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region.

What we know about the five 'strategic positions' Israel wants to keep in south Lebanon

Israel still occupies five positions in southern Lebanon, in violation of the cease-fire agreement signed with Lebanon on Nov. 27, 2024, after more than 13 months of conflict. This agreement specifically called for a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops within two months. The Hamamis hill and a position on the road between Markaba and Houla are among these five “strategic” points.

Two Israeli drones downed

Other Israeli attacks were reported on Monday: drones dropped bombs on the villages of Ras Naqoura (Sour) and Ramieh (Bint Jbeil). Meanwhile, Israeli forces also fired from the “Radar” military site, located in the occupied Shebaa Farms, towards the vicinity of Shebaa (Hasbaya).

In a statement released on Monday, the Lebanese Army said that two Israeli drones crashed Sunday in the villages of Houla (Marjayoun) and Beit Lif (Bint Jbeil).

“Lebanese army patrols secured the areas around the crash sites and transferred the drones to the specialized unit for inspection and follow-up,” the statement said. A similar drone was also found the same day in Dhaira (Sour) by the army. The Israeli army has not commented on these incidents.
