The head of Hezbollah's liaison unit, Wafic Safa, met Thursday with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, with whom he discussed Security Council Resolution 1701 and recent developments in southern Lebanon.
According to a Hezbollah statement, the meeting focused on "developments along the Blue Line, repeated Israeli aggressions against Lebanon, the risks of potential escalation, and the need to respect and implement the United Nations resolution in order to preserve stability in the region."
President Joseph Aoun and Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri also met separately on Thursday with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. The president said that he was continuing his contacts with Arab and international parties to pressure Israel to implement the terms of the cease-fire agreement, thereby allowing the Lebanese army to successfully deploy. Despite this agreement concluded in November 2024, after more than 13 months of war between Hezbollah and Israel, the Israeli state carries out near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon and continues to occupy five areas within Lebanese territory.
