The new leadership passed another political test. Meeting Thursday in Baabda Presidential Palace under the leadership of President Joseph Aoun, the Cabinet approved, as expected, a series of administrative appointments, notably at the Finance Ministry and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR).The government’s move reflects its determination to send positive signals to the international community and donor institutions, especially as the latter are pushing hard for reforms to continue, to the point of making it a condition for financing reconstruction in southern Lebanon.This time, administrative nominations went smoothly. Some ministers did raise “procedural objections,” but without blocking the process, according to a source close to Baabda.
