Maison du Futur and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Institute organized a conference on Wednesday, May 14 titled "How to overcome divisions: a conference on the future of Lebanon" in Bikfaya, 35 years after the end of the civil war (1975-1990), and as Lebanon is once again going through a period of political reconfiguration. Many Lebanese and foreign speakers – including political scientist Joseph Maila; Jean-Paul Chagnollaud, director of the Institute for Mediterranean/Middle East Research and Studies (iReMMO); Ali Hamdan, advisor to Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri; and Justice Minister Adel Nassar – were invited to discuss the ongoing internal and geopolitical factors that have undermined the Lebanese state for decades, and especially the initiatives to break out of this dynamic.
