‘Consultation account’: Salameh charged with public funds embezzlement, illicit enrichment
The indictment issued by the Beirut investigative judge also targets the two lawyers implicated in the embezzlement of $44 million from the central bank.

Beirut’s first investigative judge, Bilal Halawi, issued on Tuesday an indictment in the “consultation account” case linked to the Banque du Liban (BDL), in which former governor Riad Salameh is imprisoned over the alleged embezzlement of $44 million to private accounts.In his decision, Halawi charged Salameh with “crimes of embezzlement of public funds, forgery of documents and illicit enrichment.” He referred the case to the Beirut criminal court, while Salameh’s press office promptly issued a statement saying he will appeal the judge’s decision.
