The Mufti of Lebanon Abdel Latif Derian met Thursday with Defense Minister Michel Menassa regarding the latest developments in Lebanon, particularly the Israeli aggression against southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The Israeli state escalated its attacks last week after two unclaimed rockets were fired from southern Lebanon at Israeli border towns. Since then, the southern suburbs of Beirut have been hit twice, raising fears of a complete collapse of the cease-fire. On Saturday, General Security announced the arrest of "several suspects" in connection with these recent rocket fires.
In response to this heightened tension, Menassa condemned the "escalation of flagrant and repeated violations by the Israeli occupation," calling on "the guarantor countries of the agreement to deter Israel from continuing its violations and aggressions against Lebanese sovereignty."
