The government will meet on Friday at the Grand Serail specifically to examine the draft law on banking resolution or financial cleanup, which establishes a framework for restructuring banks, a knowledgeable source told L'Orient Today on Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with the new Governor of the Central Bank (BDL), Karim Souhaid, with whom he discussed the monetary situation and the necessity of continuing the reform plan.

Representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) received assurances regarding the adoption by Parliament of at least two crucial texts by the end of April: a new banking secrecy reform and the restructuring of the sector. These reforms are seen as a crucial preliminary step for discussions around signing a new agreement.
