Commenting on the interview the former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) gave to the local MTV channel on Thursday evening, an opposition MP told L’Orient-Le Jour, “Walid Joumblatt’s political flair gives a hint of the next phase’s outlines.” Once again, Joumblatt attacked Iran and the idea of the “unity of the fronts” that Iran put forward to justify the involvement of Lebanese Hezbollah (and the rest of Tehran’s regional satellites) in the ongoing Gaza war, which has escalated into an all-out war in Lebanon since late September.“The Islamic Republic cannot continue to use Lebanon as part of [the notion of] the unity of the fronts to improve its conditions in [the negotiations around] the nuclear dossier,” said Joumblatt.
