The Israeli army announced on Monday that it killed a senior Hezbollah official in Syria, who was responsible for a significant portion of the group's funding. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was the commander of Unit 4,400, which oversees Hezbollah's financial transfers, particularly from the sale of Iranian oil, according to Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari. He was "eliminated... a few hours ago in Syria," Hagari added.
This unit was previously commanded by Mohammed Jafar Ksir, also known as Sheikh Salah, who "managed for years the main source of income for the organization" and was "eliminated" by Israel in a targeted attack in Beirut earlier in October, the spokesperson explained.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian Ministry of Defense reported the deaths of two individuals in an Israeli strike targeting a car in Damascus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) indicated that the missile targeted a non-Syrian man driving his car in an area where a memorial ceremony for Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar, killed by Israel in Gaza last week, was taking place.
Unit 4,400 is specifically responsible for transporting Iranian oil unloaded in Syria for resale in Lebanon.
