"The most likely theory is an infiltration of the supply chain," one expert explains. "This remains to be confirmed, but it appears these devices were purchased around the same time as the pagers and from the same manufacturer."

For a second time in two days, Hezbollah was targeted by the detonation of its member's communication devices in an attack widely attributed to Israel, whose defense minister declared on Wednesday a "new phase" of the war. On Tuesday, thousands of pagers, distributed to party members in recent months to replace cell phones, exploded where they were clipped to people's belts, in their pockets, even held in their hands as they read the message that had come in moments before. Twelve people were killed and nearly 3,000 injured.
