BEIRUT — The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, confirmed that "what happened yesterday with the arrest of Riad Salameh is a significant development, but it is not enough and must be pursued further without any legal manipulation or pressure."

Riad Salameh, the former governor of Lebanon's Central Bank, was arrested on Tuesday.

Salameh was detained in Beirut after being questioned for three hours by the attorney general regarding suspicions of embezzlement of BDL funds exceeding $40 million, according to a judicial source who requested anonymity, as reported by AFP.

In a video titled "A Minute with Gebran," posted on social media platforms, Bassil emphasized that "there are many files against Salameh, and the movement will continue to monitor what happens with them."

Bassil concluded by stating, "It is the right of the Lebanese to regain hope in recovering their money and to trust the Lebanese judiciary," noting that "the road is still long to recover even a portion of the funds and deposits."
