This is the first time in the nearly eleven months of the war waged by Israel in Gaza that the Histadrut, the main trade union confederation of Israeli workers, declared a general strike across the country. Its last call dates back to the spring of 2023, in the midst of mass mobilization against the justice reform project launched by Benjamin Netanyahu's government. At the time, this day of blockade forced the prime minister to reverse his decision to fire his defense minister, Yoav Gallant.
