Telecommunications outages in southern Lebanon and Hazmieh

Several landline and DSL internet outages were reported on Friday by the public operator Ogero, which provides them, particularly in southern Lebanon and in the Hazmieh region, southeast of Beirut.

DSL customers in the villages of Doueir and Sharqieh (Nabatieh), as well as in the village of Kawthariyet al-Siyyad (Saida), have been without connection since the morning, due to a breakdown in the Kawthariyet exchange, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA). The subscribers urged Ogero and its general manager, Imad Kreidieh, to carry out the repairs as soon as possible, so that, among other things, companies that use the internet in the region can resume their work, according to the agency's sources.

Ogero also warned on its account on the X platform that "a major breakdown occurred at the Hazmieh power station due to the overload of the generators (which operate the power station in the absence of electricity supplied by the state), which led to a shutdown of services in the region." Repairs are reportedly underway.

Since last weekend, Lebanon has been without public electricity, due to a lack of fuel to operate the power plants. The public supplier Electricite du Liban (EDL) announced that it would use part of the fuel stocks available in the Zahrani oil installations to restart a neighboring production plant. This limited the electricity supply to essential public infrastructures such as Rafik Hariri International Airport or water pumps.
