South Lebanon couple's photographs capture the stories of those who stayed
Hassan Fneish and Fatima Joumaa are two photographers from southern Lebanon whose work documenting the devastation of the land and resilience of the people is now on display in Hamra.

BEIRUT — In the heart of Beirut, Hassan Fneish and Fatima Joumaa are on a mission. The young couple from southern Lebanon are bringing the story of their community to the country's capital, preserving the experiences of those caught between Israel and Hezbollah's ongoing war of attrition along the southern border.Hassan, a 32-year-old architect and photographer, and Fatima, a 25-year-old filmmaker, have turned their cameras into what they call “powerful tools of resistance.”"Today, there is a new generation in Lebanon that is seeing the real face of Israel for the first time," Hassan told L’Orient Today. “They weren’t born during 2006, the last [full-scale] war between Hezbollah and Israel.
