BEIRUT — The National Liberal Party announced in a statement published by local media outlets on Wednesday that an armed person tried to kill the son of MP Camille Dori Chamoun by attempting to crash a car into him without specifying the date or location of the incident.

Camille Dori Chamoun leads the National Liberal Party, a nationalist political party established by his grandfather and former president Camille Chamoun in 1958.

The party added that "drugs were later found in the assailant's car" without providing further details.

The National Liberal Party also called on "the state's security and judicial agencies to take the necessary punitive measures to prevent the recurrence of such assaults in order to avoid things spiraling out of control."

The party, in its statement, did not accuse any specific individual or party of involvement in the incident.
