"Former head of government Saad Hariri received US ambassador Lisa Johnson on Tuesday morning, with whom he discussed the latest developments," announced the former Lebanese official's communications office in a statement issued on Tuesday. Following the meeting at Central House in the presence of former Future Movement Parliamentary Bloc member Ghattas Khoury, Johnson described the meeting as "excellent," the statement added.
Contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, the US Embassy said a statement would be issued shortly, but declined to comment further.
Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived in Lebanon on Sunday to take part in Wednesday's 19th commemoration of the assassination of his father Rafik Hariri. This is his second stay in Beirut since he went into self-imposed exile in the United Arab Emirates following his political withdrawal in January 2022.
On Monday, he met at the Grand Serail with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He is also due to meet Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri.
