BEIRUT — An Israeli airstrike directly targeted the southern Lebanese town of Markaba, Marjeyoun district, killing one civilian and injuring others, said the mayor of the town, speaking to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the south, Muntasser Abdallah.
Civil defense rescue team had difficulties reaching the area that was struck due to the level of destruction. Rescue teams from the al-Resala Association For Medical Aid are working on evacuating the injured, Abdallah reported.
Residents said that the town had also suffered material losses such as houses and cars.
Clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along the southern border have been ongoing since Oct. 8. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hussein Nasrallah called the party's activities there "a support front" for its ally Hamas, during his first speech after the outbreak of the war. According to new Health Ministry data issued Wednesday morning, 109 people have been killed in Lebanon with hundreds of others injured.
