Presidential election: (Nearly all) stakeholders are reconsidering their positions

The end-of-year holidays have drawn to a close, pushing the presidential election back to the center stage of Lebanese politics. After a break of nearly two weeks, all local actors seem to be willing to reshuffle the cards to elect a new head of state.This is of course the case of the Free Patriotic Movement, which, amid its tug-of-war with Hezbollah, is likely to break from its ally Hezbollah’s blank vote strategy that it has thus far employed during Parliament’s presidential voting sessions.
