Presidential election: (Nearly all) stakeholders are reconsidering their positions
The Free Patriotic Movement could announce the name of its “consensus” presidential candidate on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Michel Moawad holds on to his candidacy.

The end-of-year holidays have drawn to a close, pushing the presidential election back to the center stage of Lebanese politics. After a break of nearly two weeks, all local actors seem to be willing to reshuffle the cards to elect a new head of state.This is of course the case of the Free Patriotic Movement, which, amid its tug-of-war with Hezbollah, is likely to break from its ally Hezbollah’s blank vote strategy that it has thus far employed during Parliament’s presidential voting sessions.
