BEIRUT — Split Subject doesn’t necessary look like an old-school metal band. That said, the opening number of the band’s Tuesday evening set does evoke some familiar dark metal themes. Its keyboardist, Nour Debian, fronts the young quartet. Her vocals queer any familiarity this theme may have for any old people in the room, while the electronics (here delivered four-hand with guitarist Bashir Daher) add a layer of schlock sci-fi atmospherics to the sound. The metal of Split Subject winks while it sneers.A smouldering bassline rises from drums and bass (Andrew Kareh and Ralph Chbeir, respectively) and glowers with appropriate menace, like a juvenile grizzly that hasn’t been given enough sedative.
