Three Israeli strikes on the locality of Sojod shook the Jezzine district on Saturday morning, with heavy explosions heard as far as the city of Saida, more than 40 kilometers away, our correspondent in South Lebanon reported.
The strikes, outside areas occupied by the Israeli army, also targeted Jabal al-Rafih in the Jezzine heights with a missile fired by a drone. Thick plumes of smoke were visible in the area.
Information reported by the Israeli press in recent days indicated that Hezbollah had transferred weapons from the tunnels beneath Ali Taher ridge in the Nabatieh district to areas farther inland, including some in the Jezzine district, before the ridge was captured by Israel. On Sept. 10, the Israeli army blew up the tunnels beneath Ali Taher ridge using more than 1,100 tons of explosives.
In the Christian locality of Deir Mimas in the Marjayoun district, a patrol of about 15 soldiers took up positions on the outskirts of the village on Saturday, our correspondent reported.
The municipality, meanwhile, called on residents not to go to olive fields until Monday, Sept. 28, ‘‘for safety reasons,’’ asking them to await further directives after that date depending on the security situation in the village.
Meanwhile, Israeli army drones flew at low altitude over Saida and the villages of Zahrani.
In the Nabatieh district, the Israeli army carried out demolitions beneath the Sheqif Arnoun fortress, while its artillery shelled the outskirts of Mayfadoun.
Automatic weapons fire from the Roueissat al-Alam site also targeted the Birqet al-Naqar area in the Sunni locality of Shebaa in the Hasbaya district.
Series of demolitions in Baraasheet
The locality of Baraasheet and its surroundings in the Bint Jbeil district were targeted by several demolitions overnight from Friday to Saturday.
A large explosion was reported on the outskirts of Baraasheet toward Aitaroun, while a second detonation occurred between Baraasheet and Beit Yahoun. The demolitions also affected an area between Baraasheet and Kounine, while Israeli army vehicles were spotted between Baraasheet and Beit Yahoun.
The Israeli army also fired medium machine guns from Haddatha toward Tiri and launched flares over the two villages.
In the Sour district, flares were launched over the Jebb Soueid area in Mansouri, while Israeli artillery shelled Wadi Zebqine and Dohat Kfar Rummane in the Nabatieh district.
On Friday evening, phosphorus bombs were dropped on Zawtar al-Sharqieh in the Nabatieh district, causing a fire. Fire also targeted Srebbine in the Bint Jbeil district and Mansouri, while Israeli artillery shelled Wadi Slouki in the Marjeyoun district, Wadi Zebqine in the Sour district and Qantara in the Marjayoun district.
