Hormuz tanker hit by debris from projectiles

A British maritime security agency reported Monday that a gas tanker was hit by "debris from unknown projectiles" while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has sought to impose its control since the Middle East war began.

"A master has reported an LPG tanker has been hit by debris from unknown projectiles. The master reports all crew are safe and no environmental impact," UKMTO said. "The tanker will continue to its next port of call."

The Israeli army has carried out two explosions, one in the village of Mansouri (Sour district) and the other in Deir Siryan (Marjayoun).

Meanwhile, Israeli vehicles were spotted moving in Mansouri and Zawtar Sharqiyeh (Nabatieh). A bulldozer also accompanied the moving vehicles in Mansouri.

In the Bint Jbeil district, a small Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on the village of Haddatha.

Brent oil price sinks under $100 on Mideast war hopes

The price of Brent North Sea crude, the main international benchmark, sunk back under $100 per barrel on hopes that diplomatic progess can be made on ending the U.S.-Iran war.

Brent tumbled 4.0 percent to $99.69, while the main U.S. contract, West Texas Intermediate, slumped 5.0 percent to $95.22 per barrel.

US Treasury chief says Iran airlines to be 'shut down' in two days

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Iranian airlines will have trouble functioning globally in two days under the weight of American sanctions — as the Trump administration seeks to keep pressure on Tehran.

On Sept. 23, "all the Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world," Bessent told CNBC in an interview.

"If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets or you will be knocked out of the dollar system," he added.

Artillery shelling Nabatieh district and homes set on fire in Mansouri

Artillery fire has resumed on Zawtar Sharqiyeh (Nabatieh district), according to our South Lebanon correspondent, Muntasser Abdallah. In the same district, an Israeli drone exploded over a house in Mayfadoun, where bombardments were also reported.

The Israeli army also set fire to homes in Mansouri (Sour), our correspondent added.

New Israeli strikes reported in several areas of southern Lebanon

Israeli warplanes carried out strikes in several areas of Southern Lebanon, targeting the vicinity of Wadi Hujeir and Deir Siryan, in the Marjayoun district, as well as Wadi Slouqi, between Mais al-Jabal and Houla. Another strike targeted the outskirts of Braasheet in the Bint Jbeil district.

Israeli demolitions also continued, this time in Ainata and Blida, in the Bint Jbeil district, as well as Almane al-Choumriyeh, in the Marjayoun district. Israeli military vehicles were also spotted in Mansouri, in the Sour district.

Israeli artillery also shelled the outskirts of Zawtar Sharqiyeh, while automatic weapons fire targeted the town. An Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on the outskirts of Khiam, in the Marjayoun district.

First prefabricated homes delivered to Zawtar Gharbiyeh to house residents

The first prefabricated homes have been delivered to Zawtar Gharbiyeh (Nabatieh district) to house residents, in one of the pilot zones where the Lebanese army is expected to deploy to disarm Hezbollah, in accordance with the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. Five have already arrived in the town, while another four are expected to follow soon, reports our correspondent in the South.

The mayor of the village, Abed Ezzeddine, told L’Orient Today that the nine temporary homes were intended for families facing difficult housing conditions and in urgent need of accommodation. Their installation, he said, is part of a “gradual plan aimed at enabling residents to return to the village.” The prefabricated homes are being provided by the Council for the South, Ezzeddine said, calling for their number to be increased. He added that the municipality would prepare the necessary plots of land for their installation so that more could be accommodated.

The village would nevertheless need around 200 prefabricated homes to rehouse all the displaced residents currently living in shelters, he said. Of the roughly 500 families that lived in Zawtar Gharbiyeh, only around 100 have so far returned to the village.

During the 15-month ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, from November 2024 to March 2026, the Israeli army regularly bombed prefabricated structures, most of which had been installed by an association reportedly affiliated with Hezbollah. Dozens of these structures were destroyed, with Israel arguing that they were being used by the group.

Donald Trump changed his mind several times in recent days over his strategy in Yemen, torn between Saudi pressure to strike the pro-Iranian Houthis and the risk of involving the United States in a new front in the Middle East, according to the New York Times (NYT).

The dilemma facing the U.S. president came to a head on Thursday during another phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who “once again implored him to intervene to curb the Houthis’ rapid advance,” the newspaper reported.

Donald Trump had told his advisers the previous day that he was opposed to carrying out strikes, but changed his mind after the call “and ordered the Pentagon to prepare airstrikes against the Houthis,” NYT reported. He appeared to have changed his mind again by midday Sunday and decided, “at least for now,” against such strikes, according to accounts from administration officials who spoke anonymously to the American newspaper.

The White House declined to comment on the report. “The United States has a defense agreement with Saudi Arabia and we will always defend our allies,” a senior administration official told NYT.

New attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz

A vessel was struck by an “unknown projectile” in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving two crew members with minor injuries, the British maritime security agency UKMTO said on X.

Iran, which controls the strategic waterway, does not allow vessels to pass through without its permission and regularly targets those that venture into the area.

Several military vehicles and a pickup truck carried out an incursion, covered by machine-gun fire, on the outskirts of Kfar Shuba, a still-inhabited village in the Hasbaya district, on the edge of the Israeli-occupied “buffer zone” in Southern Lebanon, according to our correspondent Muntasser Abdallah.

Meanwhile, Israeli artillery and machine-gun fire continued in several areas of the South. Artillery fire targeted Wadi Slouqi (Marjayoun), Mayfadoun (Nabatieh), and Aita al-Jabal, in the Bint Jbeil district. In the same area, a Merkava tank fired on an area between Braasheet, Kounin and Beit Yahoun. Machine-gun fire also targeted Khiam (Marjayoun).

In the border village of Houla, the Israeli army set fire to several homes.

US ambassador to UN: I wouldn't put a timeline on end of Iran war

U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations told CNN yesterday that he would not put a timeline on the end of the Iran war.

Pressed by CNN on a Sept. 9 report in the Wall Street Journal that top White House advisers privately raised with Trump the prospect that the war could continue through the rest of his term, which ends in January 2029, Waltz said: “I wouldn’t necessarily put a timeline on it.”

“I think time — with the president’s strategy and Operation Economic Fury — is on the president’s and on the United States’ side,” he noted.

The war has already dragged on for nearly seven months despite Trump’s initial insistence that it would be over within four or five weeks.

Washington restricts US officials' travel to 2 Saudi cities

Washington announced last night that it is restricting travel by U.S. officials to two Saudi cities amid repeated attacks by Yemen's Houthis against the Gulf monarchy.

"Due to the current security situation in Saudi Arabia, U.S. government employees working in the Kingdom must now obtain special authorization for any travel — whether for business or personal reasons — to the cities of Taif and Yanbu," the U.S. State Department said in a statement on X.

Iran threatens to use new weapons, expand target list in event of fresh US attack

Iran would deploy new weapons and target sites previously left untouched if the United States were to launch a new offensive against the country, Revolutionary Guard spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi announced, as cited by the Fars news agency.

"In the event of further aggression, we will certainly alter our arsenal as well as the geography of the war," he stated, adding that Tehran was prepared for a prolonged conflict.

Series of Israeli-led demolitions in Mansouri; explosions heard as far as Zahrani

Meanwhile, a series of successive Israeli-led demolitions shook Mansouri, in the Sour district, overnight.

The explosions were heard several kilometers away, as far as the Zahrani coastline south of Saida.

Another demolition was also reported between Braasheet and Kounin, in the Bint Jbeil district.

Israel has been bombarding south Lebanon with strikes since dawn

Since 5 a.m., the Israeli army has been relentlessly targeting southern Lebanon, according to our correspondent in the South.

Israeli strikes hit the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit and a neighborhood in Nabatieh Fawqa — adjacent to Ali Taher Hill — in the Nabatieh district. In the same area, machine-gun and artillery fire targeted Zawtar Sharqieh and Mayfadoun.

Shortly before this, an airstrike targeted the Wadi Zibqine valley in the Sour district, accompanied by artillery and machine-gun fire.

In the Marjayoun district, artillery fire targeted the area near Wadi Slouqi, on the outskirts of Touline.

Israeli vehicle movements were also observed heading toward Wadi Slouqi. Additionally, helicopter fire targeted Deir Siryan, while machine-gun fire from Mais al-Jabal targeted the area around the Dubieh citadel, near Shaqra.

Overnight, artillery fire targeted Zawtar Sharqieh, the area between Zawtar Sharqieh and Mayfadoun, and Mansouri.
