BEIRUT — Israel has killed 8,920 people and injured 30,559 others in Lebanon from Oct. 8, 2023, until Sept. 1, 2026, according to a report published Tuesday by the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Following Hamas's Oct. 7, 2023, operation in Israel, Hezbollah decided to open up a "support front" for its Palestinian ally. An exchange of hostilities ensued for 11 months, after which Israel launched a large-scale onslaught onto southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, and the Bekaa. A nominal "cease-fire" was reached on Nov. 27, 2024, which Israel violated every single day for the following 15 months.

On Feb. 28, 2026, the U.S. and Israel launched a war against Iran, prompting Hezbollah to launch six missiles towards Israel in support of their ally and sponsor. Israel proceeded to re-escalate its onslaught against Lebanon with widespread strikes across the South and the southern suburbs of Beirut, as well as some on the Bekaa.

Despite a new "cease-fire" reached in June 2026 following a memorandum of understanding signed between the U.S. and Iran which supposedly includes Lebanon, Israel continues to conduct daily military operations across southern Lebanon, of which it now occupies more than 600 square kilometers.
