Every summer, the public utility Electricité du Liban (EDL) faces fuel supply issues that cause a blackout, or bring it dangerously close to one. A source in EDL management confirmed to L’Orient-Le Jour that the public supplier has just gone through a "short" period of total outage due to depleted fuel reserves and a delay in the delivery of the next shipment, intended for its two active thermal power plants, Zahrani (southern Lebanon) and Deir Ammar (North Lebanon).The tanker in question, the Delphi, finished unloading part of its 33,000 tons of fuel at Zahrani on Tuesday, as announced the same day by the Energy and Water Ministry, and was set to finish unloading the rest at Deir Ammar Wednesday evening.
