BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun welcomed General Fady Kfoury, head of security at Beirut Airport, at the Presidential Palace in Baabda on Monday. According to the presidency, Kfoury briefed Aoun on the situation at the airport, while the president praised “the efforts he is making as part of the responsibilities entrusted to the department,” while reaffirming his support “for the measures taken to safeguard the security of the airport, as well as that of passengers, arrivals, and staff who work there.”
Kfoury also met during the day with Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar. The two reviewed ongoing security measures at the airport and the actions taken to ensure its safety and security, guarantee smooth operations, and facilitate the movement of travelers upon arrival and departure.
From the moment he was appointed to head the airport security department in January 2023, General Kfoury drew discontent in Hezbollah circles and among those close to the group. A highly discreet figure, rarely seen in public, the officer — known for his firmness — founded and led the strike force of the Lebanese Army’s intelligence services. For several weeks, he has been the target of online criticism attributed to followers of the political allies Amal and Hezbollah, accused by such circles of sectarian discrimination. In this context, his visit to Baabda is seen as a signal of the presidency's support for him.
