The Nabatieh region remained under Israeli bombardment Tuesday, with three drone strikes hitting Nabatieh Fawqa without causing casualties, according to our correspondent in southern Lebanon.
The first two strikes targeted the same location. Nabatieh Fawqa lies on the edge of the so-called "buffer zone" and near the Ali al-Taher hills, where Israel alleges Hezbollah operates an underground command center. Israeli artillery also shelled the surrounding area overnight.
Across the Litani River, Israeli forces carried out two demolitions in Adsheet al-Qusseir, in the Marjayoun district, after heavy morning shelling. In the Sour district, drones dropped stun grenades on Mansouri and the neighboring village of Byout al-Siyad. The villages lie within or along the edge of the "buffer zone," where Israeli forces continue to occupy dozens of Lebanese villages. On Monday evening, Israeli military also demolished an entire neighborhood in Talloussa using explosives.
The escalation comes ahead of a new round of Lebanon-Israel talks in Rome on Aug. 4-6, confirmed Monday by Washington. A U.S. State Department official said the discussions would focus on implementing the framework agreement, expanding the "pilot zones," resolving remaining border disputes and advancing a broader peace and security agreement.
Under the June 26 agreement, the Lebanese Army is to deploy in "pilot zones" vacated by Israel after Hezbollah disarms. Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported that the Lebanese Army recently discovered and dismantled a Hezbollah weapons cache in one of the zones, describing it as the first such operation since the agreement took effect. The report did not specify whether the cache was found near Srifa and Froun in Bint Jbeil district or in Zawtar Gharbieh.
