During a plenary session on Thursday, the Lebanese Parliament granted Lebanese University President Bassam Badran the right to run for another five-year, non-renewable term, despite the public university’s statutes stipulating that the president cannot serve consecutive terms.The move sparked strong opposition from several parliamentary blocs, including the Lebanese Forces, the Kataeb Party, and Change MPs, which denounced what they described as a “tailor-made” procedure benefiting the Shiite community.
