For several years now, Jana Younes has been working to build a genuine professional contemporary dance scene in Lebanon. Head of the Beirut Contemporary Ballet, the choreographer also founded the Labo de la danse to pave the way for sustainable dance careers in the country. While the ballet company was established in 2018, the Labo opened its doors in 2025. From crisis to war, setbacks have multiplied, but Jana Younes continues to pursue her ambition regardless. The result of her latest efforts is a 40-minute show, ÉTUDE for 10 Dancers, which Beirut Contemporary Ballet will present on July 16 and 17 at the Silk Factory in Fidar.If talent exists, structures capable of supporting its development remain too scarce.
