Lebanon announces in Paris its intention to abolish the death penalty
The 9th International Congress Against the Death Penalty is being held in Paris from June 30 to July 2, 2026, with the participation of Lebanese Justice Minister Adel Nassar, three members of parliament and civil society activists.

The Lebanese delegation drew attention Tuesday at the 9th International Congress Against the Death Penalty in Paris, organized by the French association Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (ECPM).Justice Minister Adel Nassar announced during the opening session at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique that "Lebanon has begun the process of abolishing the death penalty after a moratorium of more than 20 years," prompting thunderous applause and thanks from French President Emmanuel Macron.
