UN temporarily assigns Lebanon file to veteran mediator Jean Arnault

French diplomat Jean Arnault will take over as acting head of the United Nations Special Coordinator’s Office for Lebanon on July 1, following the departure of diplomat Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. The interim appointment of a seasoned negotiator reflects U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ intent to maintain a strong political presence in Lebanon at a time when the implementation of U.N.
