French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro stressed the importance of ensuring support for the Lebanese Army amid the current circumstance during a meeting with the army's commander, Rodolph Haykal, in the latter's office in Yarzeh on Tuesday, according to the state-run National News Agency.
Discussions focused on the general situation and the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, in addition to the post-UNIFIL phase.
During the meeting, Magro also expressed his appreciation for the role of the military institution in maintaining stability.
An international conference to support the Lebanese Army was set to be held in Paris on March 5, before the outbreak of war with Iran on Feb. 28, and in Lebanon on March 2, caused its postponement.
Last week, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said that he has agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron to work on holding two support conferences for Lebanon, one for "the army and security forces" and one for "reconstruction."
Since Saturday, following months of war, southern Lebanon has witnessed a relative calm for the first time amid the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, which includes Lebanon.
