Medical sources in the Gaza Strip said Saturday that five people, including four members of the same family, were killed in Israeli strikes despite the fragile cease-fire currently in effect in the Palestinian territory.

An Israeli airstrike carried out overnight on a building in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City killed four members of the al-Safadi family, the father, mother and their two daughters, according to Gaza's Civil Defense, an agency operating under the authority of Hamas. The agency added that 12 other people were wounded in the strike.

Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital confirmed it had received the bodies of four al-Safadi family members, including two children. The hospital also said it had received the body of a fifth victim following a separate Israeli drone strike near an intersection in northern Gaza City.

The Israeli army did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment on the reported strikes.

Israel and Hamas have continued to accuse each other almost daily of violating the truce that took effect last October, while violence persists across the Gaza Strip and efforts to reach a lasting end to the war remain stalled.

At least 1,012 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the cease-fire began, according to the territory's Health Ministry, which is under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.

The Israeli military, for its part, has reported five fatalities among its ranks during the same period.

Media restrictions and limited access to Gaza prevent AFP from independently verifying the figures or freely reporting on the violence on the ground.
