U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian signed a framework agreement remotely on Wednesday night to end the war in Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, the hardest part is yet to come. The most contentious issues, those that reportedly triggered the war in the first place, remain far from resolved. While Iran may appear to have emerged victorious based on the points outlined in the memorandum of understanding, the path toward a final agreement that would be in Tehran’s favor is fraught with obstacles and could ultimately lead either to renewed fighting or prolonged negotiations.
