Ali Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly 37 years before being killed by Israeli-American strikes on February 28, will be buried on July 9 in Mashhad (northeast), state television reported Saturday.
The funeral for Ali Khamenei, initially planned for March but postponed due to the war, will be held over six days starting July 4 in the capital Tehran, as well as the holy cities of Qom (north) and Mashhad, his hometown, the channel said.
The strikes that killed Khamenei marked the beginning of a large-scale war on Iran. Despite a cease-fire declared since early April, and an Iranian-American negotiation process via a Pakistani mediator, tensions remain. A framework agreement should in principle be signed in the coming days, according to U.S. President Donald Trump. Ali Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, has succeeded him.
