SOUTH LEBANON — The Israeli army has been carrying out successive and intensive strikes for several days on certain villages in southern Lebanon, especially in the districts of Sour and Nabatieh, a trend that appeared to continue on Wednesday.
Israeli fighter jets hammered the village of Tayr Debba, located east of Sour and more than 30 kilometers deep inside Lebanese territory, bombing it at least eight times, as well as Majdal Zoun in the same region, and Kfar Roummane in the Nabatieh district. The army also again bombed the « ''popular housing neighborhoods'' of Sour, after conducting several deadly raids on this area on Tuesday.
In Tayr Debba, 6 people were killed, including five residents of the locality, among them Issam Reda, a former player for Tadamon Sour football club and a coach of the club’s youth team.
Strike on a car in Saida
Notably, the Israeli army carried out a drone strike on a vehicle parked in the heart of Saida, on Riyad al-Solh street, in front of the Maronite bishopric and next to a gas station, according to information from our correspondent in the region.
Two bodies were pulled from the targeted vehicle, which caught fire. The blaze spread to several neighboring cars, causing additional damage. Thick plumes of smoke were seen at the site.
Another deadly drone strike took place in Doueir (Nabatieh district), killing Hussein Ali Tahmaz, according to our correspondent in the region.
Alongside its bombardment in southern Lebanon, mainly in the Sour district, the Israeli army issued an evacuation order in the morning for three villages: Ghassanieh (Saida district), Houmin Fawqa (Nabatieh district), as well as Ansarieh (Saida district), a village targeted repeatedly on Tuesday. The army also abducted two people in Kfar Shuba, a member of the municipal council, Mohammad Hassan al-Hage, as well as a municipal employee, Ahmad Salah Diab, according to the president of the municipality.
In the morning, heavy automatic weapon fire from Apache helicopters targeted the area around Beaufort Castle, where fighting between Hezbollah and the Israeli army has been concentrated since the fortress was seized on May 31, and from which the Israeli army is attempting to advance in the Nabatieh district.
Hezbollah claims attack in Dibil
For its part, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for an attack carried out with ''exploding drones'' on a ''newly established headquarters of the Israeli Army's 401st Armored Brigade in Dibil.''
While the party sometimes claims attacks on Israeli positions inside Dibil, a Christian village still inhabited in southern Lebanon in the Bint Jbeil district, municipal authorities continue to state there is no Israeli presence inside the village, but only on its outskirts.
More broadly, Hezbollah continued its attacks against the Israeli army in southern Lebanon. The group said it targeted gatherings of Israeli troops in Bayyada (on the coast south of Sour) at midnight, as well as on the outskirts of the locality of Yohmor al-Shaqif (Nabatieh district) at 5:10 a.m.
