The United States is seeking "a way to save face" to withdraw from the war, the Iranian Defense Ministry spokesperson said Saturday, as new Iranian-American talks via the Pakistani mediator appeared to be on the horizon.

"Our military power is now a dominating force, and the enemy is looking for a way to save face to get out of the quagmire of war in which it has become bogged down," a ministry spokesperson said, as cited by the Isna news agency.

American envoys are expected in Islamabad on Saturday, but there is no guarantee of a direct meeting with the Iranian delegation, which arrived Friday in the Pakistani capital, two weeks after the initial talks between the two belligerents.
