Toward a cease-fire in Lebanon: Riyadh steps in to contain Iran and Israel

Since late Wednesday afternoon, that is all people in Lebanon have been talking about. If the announced deal is confirmed, it will be the product of multiple international and regional efforts, at the crossroads of which stand the United States, Iran and Saudi Arabia.But many will undoubtedly seek to claim credit for it.The Lebanese state will see it as its own achievement, Iran as the result of conditions it imposed on Washington, while Hezbollah will naturally frame it within its own narrative — its fight in southern Lebanon, its resilience, and the linkage between the Lebanese and Iranian fronts.One thing is certain: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not convinced by this process and will likely seek to exploit any loophole to derail it — or at least to delay it.Will he succeed?
