BEIRUT — Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa have intensified and grown deadlier, adding significantly to the death toll from Lebanon's attacks on Lebanon. The Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that Israeli attacks since the renewed escalation of the war on March 2 now have killed 2,124 people and injured over 6,921, with 35 people killed in the last 24 hours. One-seventh of those killed are children, including a child, identified as Abbas Fadl Tarhini, in an airstrike that targeted a motorcycle Tuesday in the village of Abba (Nabatieh).

Israel destroys Bint Jbeil's center

Israel targeted at least 35 villages in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa since last night, according to our correspondents: Tiri, Deir Antar (Bint Jbeil); Nabatieh Fawqa, Arab Salim, Khardali (Nabatieh); Mahmoudiyeh (Jezzine); Shabriha, Qleileh, Shamaa, Aitit, Jwayya, Mahrouna, Srifa, Sour, Haniyeh, Siddiqine, Deir Kifa, Ain Baal, Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, Barish, Abbassieh, Burj Qalaway, Kfar Dounin, Braasheet, Kafra, Yater, Bint Jbeil (Bint Jbeil); Ansarieh, Msayleh, Adloun, Saida (Saida); Shebaa and Ain al-Jouz (Hasbaya); as well as Sohmor and Mashghara in the Bekaa.

In Tibnin (Bint Jbeil), an Israeli dawn strike killed at least five people. This strike also damaged the village's government hospital: windows were shattered, doors ripped off their hinges, and vehicles damaged near the facility.

After Israel carried out at least 13 airstrikes in the space of an hour on Srifa (Sour) the mayor of the southern Lebanese town, Mohammad Nazzal, told our correspondent in the region that the village is "devastated."

According to Nazzal, the strikes completely destroyed 20 houses and damaged dozens more. He reported that ongoing bombardment is preventing rescue workers from reaching affected areas to assess the human toll of the strikes which took place on populated and inhabited areas.

He noted that the scale of destruction since the start of the war is significant, with around 60 buildings completely destroyed and nearly 200 partially damaged, in attacks that have targeted civilian infrastructure such as shops, pharmacies, bakeries, and the town hall, causing a total cut-off of water and electricity supplies and blocking roads with rubble.

According to his information, Israeli attacks on the village have killed 35 people since 2 March, “mostly women and children.”

In this context, he called on the state to take action to put an end to the Israeli attacks and thanked the Lebanese Army for its assistance, particularly in clearing the rubble from the streets.

The center of Bint Jbeil has also been destroyed, with the Israeli army announcing Monday it had taken the government hospital and the stadium where former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah delivered his victory speech after the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000. The city's historic mosque was also targeted.

Israel also destroyed a construction base intended for building the Shrine of "Jesus the King" in the Christian village of Ain Ibl (Bint Jbeil). A municipal source told our correspondent that the demolition took place today and was not inside the town itself, but on its outskirts toward the town of Tiri.

Srifa and Bint Jbeil are not the only localities to have been destroyed. The Israeli army also carried out demolition and leveling operations in Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun) with bulldozers and heavy construction equipment. These buildings had mostly been repaired by residents after the 2023-2024 war.

Around noon, a video showing the remains of a ten-story apartment building flattened by Israeli strikes in Sour began circulating widely on social media. For the first time since the beginning of the war, the Israeli army also dropped illuminating bombs in the sky above Sour.

The Litani River Authority (LRA) said in a statement that Israel had targeted he vicinity of the Ibrahim Abdel Aal Hydroelectric Power Plant between the Mashghara plain and Ain al-Zarqa in the Western Bekaa this afternoon.

According to the statement, this led to the partial closure of the road leading to the plant and caused damage to some high-voltage lines (66 kV).

LRA confirmed that the plant continues to operate at its production capacity and to supply the public electricity grid, thanks to the immediate efforts of its technical and engineering teams to ensure continuity of service.

While condemning this attack, the LRA stressed that "hydroelectric power facilities are considered essential civilian infrastructure and enjoy special protection under international humanitarian law."

Among the recorded victims, two people were killed overnight in an Israeli drone strike on a car on the Msayleh road (Saida). Three people were killed in a strike in Adloun, while in the Bekaa four people — a mother and her children — were killed in an air strike on their house in Sohmor, which has been under Israeli attack for at least two days. Three people were killed at dawn in Kfar Sir and another three in Adsheet (Nabatieh). Drones targeted a scooter in Barish (Sour) killing one, and a house in Kafra (Bint Jbeil), killing one. In Abbassieh, a van driver was seriously injured in another drone strike.

Israeli army takes three captives

Battles between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops continued through the night from Monday into Tuesday. The Israeli army announced Tuesday morning the death of one of its soldiers "in combat." By mid-afternoon, the Israeli army reported at least ten soldiers wounded, three of them seriously.

The Israeli army confirmed Tuesday evening that it had captured three Hezbollah members. A photo showing a soldier, presented as the commander of the brigade that allegedly carried out the capture, posing in front of a Bint Jbeil memorial, was shared by the Israeli Channel 12 as well as other media outlets and social media accounts. However, according to our correspondent, the monument is not located "in the heart" of the city, but rather on its outskirts.

Hezbollah intensifies attacks

During the day Tuesday, the Israeli army said it expected Hezbollah attacks to intensify as the U.S.-mediated Lebanon-Israel talks took place for the first time in Washington DC. Among its actions for the day, Hezbollah claimed two surface-to-air missile launches — on an Israeli army drone “of the Hermes 450-Zik type” over Siddiqine (Sour), and on a fighter jet over western Bekaa.

Overnight, rockets were fired at Israeli soldiers south of Khiam, a town in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon where fighting has been ongoing for weeks between Hezbollah and Israeli troops. Also in southern Lebanon, but in the western sector south of Sour, Hezbollah claimed a rocket attack on a “new artillery position” of the Israeli army at Bayada. On Sunday, artillery fire hit Kharayeb (Saida), north of Sour, 20 kilometers from the border. It was the first time artillery had struck at this range in Lebanon. Hezbollah fighters also "targeted with explosive drones" the Limane barracks in Nahariya and a fire command center in Kfar Giladi.

During the day, Hezbollah claimed two new rocket attacks: one against Misgav Am in northern Israel, and one against a telecommunications station at the Aliqa barracks in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Hezbollah also said it launched rocket salvos on northern Israel, notably against Kiryat Shmona, Manara, and Israeli army facilities in Karmiel, "in response to attacks on Tyre." In other attacks, it said it targeted Metula, Misgav Am, Kfar Giladi, Malkia, Tel Hai, Dishon, Manara, Margaliot, Kfar Blum, Tel Hai, Dishon, Liman, Saar, and Nahariya.

Lastly, among isolated incidents, a fire broke out during the night from Monday to Tuesday in a Syrian refugee camp in the so-called Marj al-Khokh area, on the main road connecting Marjayoun to Ibll al-Saqi, destroying several tents but causing no casualties. While the cause of the blaze is not immediately known, some preliminary information suggests incendiary materials dropped by an Israeli army drone.
