The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) has transferred to the Housing Bank the fourth installment of its $165 million loan, amounting to $16.123 million, according to a statement from the chairman of the board and general manager of the bank, Antoine Habib.
According to Habib, this disbursement brings the total amount received by the Housing Bank over the past five months to approximately $70 million, out of the overall $165 million package, equivalent to 50 million Kuwaiti dinars.
The line of credit was committed by the fund in 2025, allowing the Housing Bank to raise, in June 2025, the ceiling on its subsidized housing loans to $100,000, up from the previous $50,000.
These funds are intended to finance subsidized housing loans for low- and middle-income borrowers in both the public and private sectors, as well as for people with special needs, throughout Lebanese territory. The loans are aimed at financing the purchase of a home, the rehabilitation of an old house, or the construction of a home on land already owned by the borrower.
Habib added that all amounts received so far have already been fully allocated to housing loans for beneficiaries across the country. He specified that the larger package granted by the Arab Fund was also intended to support the continued lending activity in this sector.
The Housing Bank relaunched its subsidized housing loan program in June 2024, reopening applications after more than five years of suspension, with disbursements starting later in the same month.
