BEIRUT — Outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani offered condolences to President Joseph Aoun “for the victims of the Israeli attacks against Lebanon, particularly those that occurred last Wednesday,” according to a statement from the Baabda Presidential Palace.

He said Iraq “condemns these attacks” and “stands with Lebanon and its people during these difficult times,” also expressing support for efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and security across Lebanese territory.

Al-Sudani also said Iraq would provide urgent aid to Lebanon, including fuel, food, and humanitarian assistance.

The statement added that more than 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the war on March 2, including more than 300 during a series of heavy strikes on Wednesday, before Israel announced plans to seek a truce.
