Israeli-American strikes targeted a petrochemical site in southwestern Iran on Saturday morning, injuring five people, local news agencies reported, as the war in the Middle East entered its sixth week.

"Powerful explosions occurred in the Mahshahr special petrochemical zone" in Khuzestan province, the Fars agency reported, citing the region’s deputy governor, Valiollah Hayati.

According to him, "the Israeli-American attack" struck three companies in the sector.

"The extent of the damage remains unknown," he told another agency, Tasnim, reporting five injuries.

A little later, Tasnim reported information indicating that the site "did not suffer damage in its main parts."
