BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun extended his wishes for "recovery and unity" to the Lebanese people on Wednesday on the occasion of the Annunciation celebration.
"May this holiday be a sign of recovery, unity, and a homeland that overcomes its pain and resumes the path of sovereignty, dignity, justice, unity, and rebuilding," he wrote on X.
The Annunciation marks the announcement made by the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary of her upcoming motherhood, according to the Gospel. March 25 is a public holiday in Lebanon on this occasion. The holiday takes place this year against the backdrop of the war between Hezbollah and the Israeli army since early March, amid a broader regional conflict.
Israeli attacks have killed 1,072 people and wounded 2,966 in Lebanon, according to the latest figures from the Health Ministry.
