BEIRUT – Five Al-Amana gas stations, affiliated with Hezbollah, were targeted Wednesday morning by Israeli strikes in several localities in southern Lebanon, according to our correspondent. The stations are located in Srifa, Burj al-Shemali, Hoch and Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in the Sour district, and Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district.

The Israeli army has acknowledged deliberately targeting these gas stations, saying it aimed to damage "the revenues and mobility" of the pro-Iranian Shiite party, according to the Times of Israel.

The al-Amana gas stations have been under U.S. sanctions since February 2020. In 2021, at the height of the economic crisis and widespread shortages, the al-Amana company announced it was selling discounted Iranian fuel delivered by Hezbollah.

These strikes come after a heavy night of Israeli bombardment on southern Lebanon from Tuesday into Wednesday, with the Nabatieh district particularly affected. Israeli vehicles were also observed advancing near Maroun al-Ras, in the Bint Jbeil district. During the same period, in addition to strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, the Israeli army carried out multiple airstrikes on the city center, targeting apartment buildings in the Zoqaq al-Blat and Basta neighborhoods. Another strike hit a building in Zoqaq al-Blat on Wednesday morning.
