Armed Hezbollah supporters: Between swift releases and new charges
The military prosecutor’s charges against Hezbollah members are not in line with the military court’s approach, which on Monday released three armed militants from the party after just a few days in detention.

While the military court released three Hezbollah members on Monday who had been arrested only six days earlier, the military prosecutor continues to review the cases of other Hezbollah militants also detained for illegally possessing weapons and ammunition, in line with a decision adopted by the Cabinet on March 2 that explicitly bans any military activity by the party. The government commissioner to the military court, Claude Ghanem, filed charges on Wednesday and Thursday against two Hezbollah members who had been arrested earlier this week at an army checkpoint in southern Lebanon while carrying pistols and rifles.
