Since Sunday morning, deadly Israeli strikes have continued in southern Lebanon, killing more than 30 people, according to information from our correspondent in the region. The Israeli strike on Sir al-Gharbieh, in the Nabatieh district north of the Litani, committed a massacre, killing at least 15 people.
As Israel intensifies its strikes on the South, targeting residential buildings with people in them, the overall toll of the offensive has surged. According to the latest Health Ministry figures released early in the afternoon, Israeli attacks have already claimed 394 lives. The toll stood at less than 300 just twelve hours earlier.
In Sir al-Gharbieh, at 6:30 a.m., Israel struck a building housing four families, according to information from our correspondent. Israeli strikes also killed three people in Qana (Sour), with one strike notably targeting the home of the mukhtar (local official). Strikes killed a father and his son in Anqoun (Saida) and at least two people in Ghazieh, including a retired Lebanese army brigadier general and his nephew.
Israel did not let up its strikes throughout the night, killing three in Jbal al-Botm (Sour) and eight in Teffahta (Saida), mainly members of the same family, the Ezzeddines. Around 2:40 a.m. between Saturday and Sunday, Israel also carried out a strike on the Ramada Hotel in the Raouche neighborhood on Beirut’s waterfront, killing four people, according to a Health Ministry tally.
According to the Israeli army's Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee, this "precision strike" targeted commanders from the "Lebanon Corps," part of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' al-Quds force.
After announcing a new wave of imminent strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, Israel targeted the area three times between night and dawn this morning.
Threats to the Nabatieh district
In addition to reiterating its evacuation orders for the entire area south of the Litani, the Israeli army also issued an "urgent message" to residents of the villages of Arnoun, Yohmor, Zawtar Sharqieh, and Zawtar Gharbieh in the Nabatieh district, ordering them "to evacuate immediately" and head north.
Clashes are also continuing between Hezbollah and Israeli troops, particularly in Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil) and Markaba (Marjayoun), where Hezbollah has claimed several attacks since Saturday night on "attempted advances" by Israeli soldiers and troops. It also said it has launched several rocket or drone attacks on northern Israeli towns, including Kiryat Shmona and Nahariya, whose residents it had warned to evacuate, and reaching as far as Haifa.
'Prolonged presence' of Israel in Lebanon
The commander of the Israeli navy, David Saar Salama, told fellow commanders during a meeting that they had "so far struck the southern suburbs of Beirut, Sour, Saida and Tripoli" and that they are "preparing for a prolonged presence and will continue the mission for as long as necessary."
Many strikes since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on Lebanon nearly a week ago have been carried out from Israeli warships.
